One Direction
They faced disappointment after failing to make it on the X-Factor individually but then Simon Cowell threw them a lifeline. Simon admitted that they were too good to leave out of the competition and invited Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan to form a group.
One Direction (or is it 1direction?) was born and they immediately made a huge impact on the whole competition. They managed to get all the way to the final, final show of the 2010 series but unfortunately just missed out on winning as they came in 3rd place. Not bad for a band that had been put together less than 3 months before!
The future, however, for One Direction is bright as they have a huge following and with Simon Cowell's backing are sure to be one of the biggest boybands around.

Matt Cardle wins the 2010 X-Factor as One Direction come in third place
12/12/10 - Well, it wasn't the ending that we had all dreamed about but the boys have still done fantastically well. They lost out on the runner-up spot to Rebecca Ferguson as MAtt Cardle won and loads of congratulations to both of them as they have been brilliant contestants throughout.
So then, is this the end of One Direction? NO! Absolutely not! All the boys agree that they are going to carry on and with the support of their mentor, Simon Cowell, and the backing of their huge fanbase we are sure that One Direction are going to be a massive, successful boyband in the future.
One Direction have made it through to the final night of the X-Factor 2010! Can they win?
11/12/10 - Liam, Louis, Harry, Zayn and Niall have done it and are through to the final, final show tomorrow night. It was down to public votes only and Cher Lloyd was the unlucky act to be eliminated so close to the finishing line. One Direction will be joined for one final time tomorrow night by Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson. Can they win the whole competition? Better get dialing!
Confirmed: One act to leave at the end of tonight's X-Factor show!
11/12/10 - It has been confirmed that there will only be 3 acts appearing in tomorrows show which means there WILL be an elimination tonight. Make sure that One Direction make it all the way and win by watching from 7pm tonight and voting for the best boy band in the world!
Robbie Williams to duet with One Direction on Saturday
09/12/10 - It's been confirmed that the one and only Robbie Williams will be joining One Direction live on stage on the final show of the X-Factor. The boys, quite understandably, are thrilled to be appearing on stage with the Take That superstar.
Also confimed for Saturday night's show is Rihanna (with Matt Cardle), will.i.am (Cher Lloyd) and Christina Aguilera (Rebecca Ferguson).
One Direction are through to the final show of the X-Factor 2010!
05/12/10 - They've done it! Tonight we saw the boys going through to the very last show of the series and a real chance of winning it. Mary Byrne was eliminated after she lost the sin-off against Cher Lloyd which means the final 4 acts are: Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd and of course... One Direction!
Don't you wish you were the "Only Girl in the World"?
04/12/10 - It's semi-final night on the X-Factor and for their second performance of the night One Direction sang the smash hit by Rihanna "Only Girl in the World".
Zayn had missed much of the preparation for tonight's show after receiving some bad family news and they had been without their mentor Simon due to illness but despite all of this they still pulled off a great performance- will it be enough to get them into the finals? Only if you get voting! Click here to watch the video again.
Rock Week confirmed for X-factor
25/11/10 - So after last years successful "Rock Week" that say the likes of Guns N' Roses and Queen being performed, the X-Factor have decided to do it again this week. Everybody loves a bit of ROCK!!!! Any glues as to what One Direction will be rocking out to? We'll keep you updated if any secrets slip!
It's a close shave for Cher Lloyd but Paije Richardson is the unlucky act eliminated
21/11/10 - So first things first, One Direction are safely through to next week but it was more who wasn't in the bottom two that will catch the headlines tonight- neither Katie or Wagner found themselves in danger. Instead it was Cher Lloyd and Paije Richardson that found themselves singing for survival, both of whom had never been in this position before. In the end it was Cher who was saved as she received three of the judges votes to Paijes one.
We found it amazing that Cher was in the bottom two as many (ourselves included) thought that she was one of the favourites to win the show, but just like last week when we lost Aiden- if you don't vote for your act...
"All You Need Is Love" sung on the Beatles tribute night
20/11/10 - Hey we got the song choice right! (ok so the Sun did but hey-ho there you go). To be honest tonights show had quite a few poor performances compared to the usual high standards, Cher wasn't so hot, Rebecca Ferguson seemed to struggle and even Matt Cardle didn't get the usual warm praise from all the judges but... One Direction still did well! Watch the video of All You Need is Love here.
One Direction to sing the Beatles "All You Need Is Love"?
18/11/10 - Unconfirmed reports (okay so it was the Sun newspaper that said it!) suggest that the boys are going to sing "All You Need is Love" on Beatles night on Saturday. Katie is reportedly going to sing "Help"- hmmm... surely she can't survive a fifth week in the bottom two!
Shock result as Aiden Grimshaw is eliminated from X-Factor
14/11/10 - The One Direction boys are safe for another week (were we ever worried?) but there was a shock tonight as one of the early favourites, Aiden Grimshaw, left the competition. Aiden found himself in the bottom two with Katie Waissel, the judges couldn't come to an agreement and so Aiden left as he had received the fewest public votes. Katie has now survived being in the bottom two an amazing four times!
One Direction sing "The Way You Look Tonight"
13/11/10 - It's Elton John night tonight and the boys performed one of the acts of the night with their rendition of the classic "The Way You Look Tonight"
Watch the boys sing some Elton John by clicking here
American Anthems night and One Direction are loving it!
06/11/10 - Singing Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" the boys were clearly having a lot of fun tonight (probably helped by the abundance of cheerleaders!)
Is there no stopping Louis, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Harry? Watch the video here
Is Zayn dating Belle Amie's Geneva Lane?
05/11/10 - Well at the start of the week it was all rumours about Zayn dating Cher but the Mirror reports today that he has been in actual fact "getting cosy with Belle Amie's Geneva Lane". Apparently "they even had matching love bites!" Wonder who he'll be "dating" by the weekend!
It's Halloween and One Direction sing Bonnie Tyler?!
30/10/10 - With blood dripping from their faces (okay okay.. i know it was make-up!) the boys of One Direction took on Halloween by singing Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".
Liam led the vocals for this one and the judges yet again were impressed- watch the video of Total Eclipse of the Heart here.
John Adeleye becomes the fifth contestant to be voted out of the X Factor
24/10/10 - One Direction are safely through to next weeks show but Louis Walsh, as with Simon, is now down to just two acts to mentor in this years X Factor. John Adeleye found himself in the bottom two along side Treyc Cohen and so faced a sing-off, unfortunately for John when it came to the judges votes he only won his mentors and so left the show with Treyc winning 3 votes to 1.
"Nobody Knows" for the third live X-Factor show.
23/10/10 - Well apparently there was a last minute change of plan as this wasn't the song that the boys had been practicing all week. They put this together in just 24 hours and it still sounded great. Liam led from the start and all four judges agreed that it was a great performance. Watch the video of One Direction singing Pink's Nobody Knows here.
"My Life Would Suck" without One Direction in it!
16/10/10 - It was all bit touch'n'go as to whether or not Harry would be able to perform tonight as he had come down with a virus but thankfully he did. The boys performed the Kelly Clarkson hit "My Life Would Suck Without You", apparently Cheryl Cole "can't cope" with cute they are! It took quite a while after the song for the judges to speak as the screaming from the crowd was so loud. Watch the video here.
One Direction sing "Viva la Vida" on first of X-Factor live shows
09/10/10 - So it was just a week ago that we saw them for the first time performing as group in front of Simon and tonight we saw how far they've come already. Louis told them "You guys could be the next big band boy" and their mentor described them as "just brilliant". Watch One Direction perform Viva la vida here and don't forget to tell us what you though by leaving a comment!
Guess what? They're through to the live shows!
03/10/10 - Well done boys, One Direction have been chosen by Simon as one of his 3 groups to perform on the X-Factor live shows!
Also through for the groups are Belle Amie and F.Y.D. Cher, Rebecca Ferguson and Katie Waissel are through for the girls, Matt Cardle, Aiden Grimshaw and Nicolo Festa for the boys and finally Mary Byrne, Storm Lee and John Adeleye for the over 28s. To watch the boys reaction as they are told they are through click here (Harry is so happy he gives Simon a big hug awww!)
1Direction perform together for first time at the judges house
02/10/10 - Our favourite 5 boys chose to sing Natalie Imbruglia's 1997 hit "Torn". This was the first time that we have been able to see Liam, Louis, Harry, Zayn and Niall all performing together as a band and we weren't disappointed. Have they done enough to convince Simon that they deserve a place in his final 3 groups? We'll find out tomorrow, until then watch the video of Torn sung by One Direction
